Instructions:  Find a partner to do this exercise if at all possible.   Read through the directions completely before you begin.  It is important to follow the directions carefully.  The directions are here to guide you and to save you some later distress [called losing your work!!]:

  1. Copy the Scavenger Hunt Questions (click here for the questions) into a Microsoft Word Document and save it onto the desktop...or where it is convenient for you to locate at a later time.  Save the document and name it "scavenger_hunt_yourlastname"  You will need to keep this document for your webfolio.
  2. Use at least five different search engines to search for sites that will provide answers to the Scavenger Hunt questions. Use web search tools and search techniques from the PowerPoint, Searching the Internet Effectively.  Refer often to relevant slides/notes as well as information in the Search Features Chart to help you create good searches.
  3. Once you find the answer to a given item, go back and copy the search string that you used and place it into the appropriate place under the question.  Then, when you have located the answer to the scavenger hunt question, copy and paste the answer into the appropriate spot, indicate the URL where you found the answer, and identify the search engine used in the search.  Also, be sure to add the URL where you found the answer to a Favorites folder created and appropriately named among the favorites on Internet Explorer.  Save your document frequently.
  4. When you have answered all of the questions on the saved Microsoft Word document, go to the electronic version of the Scavenger Hunt located among your courses in UD's Blackboard system and paste into the boxes the answers recorded on your Microsoft Word document.  Each pasted answer should include:

Search String:
Your answer:
URL:  (remember to start each URL with http://)
Search Engine/Directory Used:

  1. When all answers have been pasted into the appropriate boxes, submit answers electronically.
  2. You will receive confirmation that your Scavenger Hunt answers have been submitted.
  3. Once your answers have been submitted electronically, the course instructor will let you know if you have answered the questions correctly or if you need to re-search.
  4. Be sure to export the Favorites folder with the URL's to an html document that eventually can be placed in your mediacenter06 folder.

The electronic version of the Scavenger Hunt is located on the Blackboard System.  Click here to go to the logon page.
