Marcellus

Marcus Claudius Marcellus

  1. A Roman general, first seen in successful military actions in 222 BC against the Gauls.  During the Second Punic War, after a long siege he conquered the town of Syracuse.  In 208 BC, he was killed while serving as consul for the fifth time by a Carthaginian ambush.
