Numa Pompilius

A Sabine, Numa Pompilius was the second king of Rome (714-673 BC).  Unlike his predecessor Romulus, Numa maintained peaceful relations with the surrounding towns, preferring instead to nurture the religious development of his people.  Numa is credited with many of the religious ceremonies and customs practiced later by the Roman people.  After ruling for 43 years, Numa Pompilius died of natural causes.
