Aristophanes

An Athenian comic poet, who lived c. 445-385 BC.  Virtually nothing is known about his life.  Among his plays are The Clouds, Birds and Frogs.

Besides being entertaining, Aristophanes can be a valuable source of information.  Many of his jokes are aimed at famous men, such Socrates in The Clouds.
