Phoenix

Phoenix, the king of the Dolopions, is a Greeks soldier during the Trojan War.  An old man at the time, he went as a protector of Achilles, who was still young at the time the war began.

Earlier in his life, Phoenix had participated in the Calydonian boar hunt, in which Peleus killed his brother-in-law.  Later, Peleus made his friend Phoenix the king of the Dolopians.  When Achilles was young, Phoenix was in charge of his training for a time.

During the war, he acts as a wise counsel to Achilles.  He was a member of the embassy, along with Ajax and Odysseus, who attempted to convince Achilles to return to battle.  He later sailed with Odysseus to enlist the help of Neoptolemus and Philoctetes.
